“Someone took care of me throughout my life and now it’s my turn to give back others,” says Vanessa Holm, a certified nursing assistant (CNA) and trained medical assistant (TMA) at Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake, Minnesota. “It is my calling.”
Vanessa says she was inspired to become a caregiver because she cares about people and the wellbeing of others. “Seeing people smile and be happy, knowing that resident got what they needed spiritually, physically, mentally, and emotionally, is the best part of my job,” says Vanessa.
Professional caregivers don’t deal with numbers, but people, Vanessa says. “They have a past and a story that is very important.”
Senior care should not only matter to caregivers, emphasizes Vanessa. Making sure all Minnesota seniors have access to quality care to help them age well should matter to everyone because aging affects all of us. “Everyone deserves a voice.”
